Starts at 10:30 am (Central time)
JoAmy Hicks Wynn, 83, of Shreveport, LA, passed away unexpectedly on May 23, 2026. Born on August 2, 1942 in Miller County, AR, she was the daughter of the late Cyril Coleman Hicks and Mary Ann Douglas Hicks.
JoAmy, known affectionately known to many as Ms Jo, dedicated her life to education and nurturing others. A proud graduate of Brightstar, Texarkana Junior College, and Northwestern State University of Louisiana, she began her teaching career in mathematics at Tioga High School in Alexandria and moved on to Byrd High School in Shreveport in 1965. She later taught at Booker T. Washington High School during the 1970s and concluded her high school teaching career at Captain Shreve High School, retiring in 2001. Her passion for teaching extended beyond retirement as she educated four-year-olds at Saint Joseph Catholic School and offered countless tutoring sessions to many area students. JoAmy also shared her love for learning with the youngest members of her church by teaching three and four-year-old Sunday School classes with her husband for decades.
JoAmy found joy in cooking, reading, solving puzzles, and engaging in trivia games or game shows—especially “Jeopardy”. Her warmth and generosity left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Sherman Wynn Jr.; her children, Michael Brent Wynn and Amy Melissa Wynn; her grandson, Christopher Coleman Wynn; and her brothers, C.C. Hicks, Stephen Hicks, and Stanley Hicks and their families.
A memorial service will be held on June 4, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Church of Christ-North, located at 3401 N Market St., Shreveport, LA 71107.
JoAmy’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to others will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
