Jimmy Charles Montgomery, 74, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025, at his home in Heflin, LA, following a two-year fight with cancer. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at 1 p.m. Caradan Cemetery, Mills County, TX, with Dr. David Crosby officiating.
Jimmy was born May 26, 1951, in San Saba, TX, the son of Andrew and Evelyn Montgomery. He graduated from Hamilton High School where he was active in the band. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Texas, and then a Pharmacy degree from Xavier University in New Orleans, LA. Later he received his master's degree in Sociology from the University of Chicago. While living in Chicago he was a social worker at a homeless shelter, work that he found very rewarding and challenging. Jimmy loved to travel and to discuss politics. He was a wonderful cook and provided many meals for his family and people in the community.
In 2008 he moved to Heflin, LA, to live closer to his family and help care for his mother. He enjoyed working in his beautiful yard and filling it with lovely flowers. Everyone in Heflin complimented him on his flower beds.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Andrew Travis Montgomery, Jr.
Survivors include his sister Marcia Dickerson and sister and brother-in-law, Carleigh and Todd Leake all of Heflin, LA.
