Obituary

Jesse Edward Burkheart was born December 22, 1922 and passed away August 31, 2020 in Shreveport.  Dad was the proud father of 4 girls, Neely Spruell, who met him at the gate of Heaven, and Carolyn Ann (Mike) Rippetoe, Judy Heinz and Patricia (Darryl) Lincoln.  He had a stroke seven years ago and spent the last years of his life at the VA Home in Bossier.  Dad was born in Clay County, Arkansas and outlived all of his siblings.  He was married to Dora Burkheart, who considered him the greatest thing to ever exist.  She died in 1986.  Jesse retired from the Shreveport Police Department as a Sergeant and then went on to retire from the Caddo Parish School Board as a security guard.  He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Karla Stanford, Arthur Kline, Rachel Young, Eric Rippetoe, Danielle Pace,  Jeremy Grant,  Terry Watkins, Bo Davidson and Kelly Davidson, and tons of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Dad will always be remembered for his $10 Christmas Gift Giveaway, where he visited with every member of the family and passed out $10 bills for his Christmas gift to you.  Everyone in the family got the same $10—no favoritism ever shown!  His oldest granddaughter, Karla, was lucky enough to accompany him on his World War II Veterans' trip to Washington.  He was so very moved by the love shown at the airport and at Monument Mall when complete strangers would come over to him and shake his hand and thank him for his service.  That was a very special day in his life.  Heaven's gain has left a big, empty hole in our world.  Dad was the perfect example of unconditional love.  He never thought any of his family ever did anything wrong.  He would just be there to help pick up the pieces, completely without judgment.  We will all miss that unconditional love.  A memorial service will be held in December, on or near what would have been his 98 th birthday.
