Obituary

Mrs. Jane Schaefer Thompson, 88, a longtime resident of Shreveport, passed away Sunday December 4, 2016. Jane was born September 1, 1928 in Wilmington, Delaware but grew up in Larchmont, New York. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert "Pat" Thompson. Left behind to carry on her legacy of wit and charm are her children  Emily Scott Thompson Douget and Robert "Robby" Thompson and wife Carla, grandchildren Michael, Robert, John, Phillip and wife Courtney, and Janelle, and great-grandchildren Aubrey Jane, Sophie Jane, Shane, and Max. She also leaves behind her beloved cat Haile who served as King of Barkus and Meoux.
Mrs. Thompson attended Brown University Pembroke Women's College before transferring to Louisiana State University and becoming a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She transferred to Centenary College where she graduated with a degree in Languages. This art of speaking served her well as she was a charismatic individual with a flair for living life in every moment, striking up a conversation with all around. Even in her teen years prior to college while attending boarding school, she would often ride the train during the war simply to meet and speak with the soldiers in the club car.
Jane spent her years serving her community in many ways. She was passionate about tending to the feral cat population of our area and supported groups involved with the care and control of the feral cat community. She was a lifetime member of the Krewe of Barkus and Meoux. She was also supporter of Al-anon and a caller for the Ostomy group, both of which were causes close to her heart. However her real passion was for the Girl Scouts of America. Mrs. Thompson was a "Professional Girl Scout" for over 28 years from head to toe for the Pelican Council. She would frequently be asked by the girls she worked with if she was wearing her signature Girl Scout Green toenail polish as this became her color of choice to show support for the group. As a result of her dedication to the organization, she received 2 Thanks Badges from the Girls Scouts, something she treasured greatly.
The family wishes to thank Mrs. Thompson's housekeeper Ms. Sheronica Clark, Dr. Ann Landry and Dr. Brian Dockendorf as well as the staff of Montclair Park Assisted Living. Additionally a special thank you to Drs. Catherine Foret and Dr. Adam Foret at University Veterinary Hospital for all the love and care they have provided to Haile and Harvey as this brought so much joy to Jane.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 10, 2016 at 11 a.m at The Church of the Holy Cross "Episcopal" in Shreveport and will be officiated by family friend Reverend Kenneth Paul. Visitation will be immediately preceding the service at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Thompson's honor to Robinson's Rescue Feral Cat fund at 2515 Line Ave, Shreveport LA 71104
