James Shawn Witherington, 57, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away at his residence on March 20, 2026.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Tracy Witherington; his grandfather, Tracy Enoch Witherington; his grandmother, Mina Wardlaw Witherington; and his maternal grandparents, James Armstrong and Darlene Kelly.
He is survived by his mother, Lisabeth Anne Witherington; his beloved wife, Kathryn Elizabeth Witherington; his daughter, Anna Elisabeth Lucas (husband, Jordan); and his daughter, Allison Catherine Witherington (fiancé, Craig Ross).
Shawn proudly attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville on a music scholarship, where he played the trumpet and performed solos on the field as a freshman. He had an incredible musical talent—he could sing anything—and was known for his wide-ranging taste, from classical Mozart to Disney favorites like The Lion King and Frozen, as well as Run DMC, often playing while riding his motorcycle.
After college, Shawn entered law enforcement, graduating at the top of his academy class and receiving numerous recognitions. He later chose to leave law enforcement to focus on his family and transitioned into the oil and natural gas industry. Through hard work and determination, he worked his way up from a green hat to a company man and built a successful career as an oil field consultant. His “guys” on location and his colleagues meant so much to him, many becoming lifelong friends—you know who you are. Shawn never met a stranger and was widely respected and loved in the frac community.
His two daughters, Anna Beth and Alli, were his pride and joy. He loved them deeply and showed that love by fighting hard to stay with them over the last two years, as well as for his beloved mother, Liz, and his wife, Katie.
Shawn was also a member of two motorcycle clubs, Invictus and Rogue 22. The members of both clubs became his brothers, and he formed lifelong bonds and brotherhoods within them. He was deeply respected among them.
During his final week at home, Shawn was surrounded by an outpouring of love, with visits and calls from friends and loved ones from every part of his life. It was a beautiful thing for his family to witness, and they are grateful to all who reached out.
On August 30, 2024, Shawn accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into his heart and was baptized on September 15, 2024, by Pastor Brother Rocky Maddox at Rose Park Baptist Church. He cherished his relationship with the Lord and spent his final two years faithfully serving God and studying the Bible, even through illness, procedures, and countless doctor visits. Known for always speaking his mind—often with colorful language—Shawn took great pride in growing in his faith and striving to reflect Christ in his words and actions.
Shawn’s unforgettable personality, sense of humor, and strong moral compass made him a deeply loved man—an honored friend, son, husband, and father. All who knew him loved him, and he will be fiercely missed.
He loved watching the Arkansas Razorbacks play football on Saturdays, had a gift for gardening, and found joy in everything he planted. Shawn was at peace with his passing and looked forward to being reunited in Heaven with his father and grandfather, imagining hunting bobcats and raccoons together again. His beloved dogs, Dillon and Turbeaux, will surely be waiting at Heaven’s gates to greet him.
