IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Berry
Rawls
December 6, 1954 – May 17, 2021
James Berry Rawls
James Berry Rawls, affectionally called Jimmy, Jimbo, and Poppy went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 17, 2021. Jimmy was born in Denver, Colorado, on December 6, 1954, graduated from Southwood High School in 1972, and obtained a degree from Ayers Institute.
Early in life, Jimmy worked at AT&T as a Technician and enjoyed his passion for sports until he couldn't play any longer. He often reminisced about good times with Jeff Anderson (Redraw) and Tommy Hill. He enjoyed coaching Little League teams and traveled the US on his Harley with lifelong friends David Burks, Jay LaCaze, and Mark Steger (Stretch). After retirement, Jimmy devoted his time to community service and as a caretaker to his mother. He was jokingly known as Forest Gump at Evangel Christian Academy, where he volunteered for several years, helping to maintain the football and baseball fields.
Jimmy was a loving son, husband, Dad, Poppy, friend, and Christian with a servant's heart. Left to cherish his memory is Cathy Graham Rawls (married 40 years), two devoted children, Kimberly Danielle Rawls Manuel, husband Ty Manuel, and James Brent Rawls. He dearly loved his granddaughters, Alexis, Rylei, and three step-grandchildren, Tristan, Gracie, and Dakota. His mother, Ann Cox Rawls, brother Bobby Rawls, wife Cheryl, sister Donna Medack, husband Rick, and much-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Dan Rawls.
A celebration of Jimmy's life is planned for Saturday, May 29 at 11:00 am at Shreveport Community Church in the main sanctuary, 5720 Buncombe Road, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71129 .
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Rest In Peace,
We love and miss you, Dad.
