James Paul Morgan was born on June 16, 1951, in Shreveport, LA, and passed away peacefully in Minden, LA, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the age of 75. He is the son of “Dude” and Linnie Morgan of Calvin, LA. He loved his family, dogs, and going to Saline and Castor basketball games.
Paul grew up in Calvin, LA, and graduated from Calvin High School in 1971. He played high school basketball and worked with his dad hauling pulpwood to start his career. He then married Brenda Chandler and moved to Shreveport, LA, briefly working for FabSteel of Waskom, TX, and General Electric, then onto a career at Libbey Glass as a Machine Repairman for 27 years, retiring in 2004. He was an ordained minister, going to several churches, as needed. He enjoyed guns and reloading. He also loved watching his son, Robby, play basketball for the Saline Bobcats, and his grandsons Johnathan and Nash play for the Castor Tigers. He loved to hunt and build deer stands. His favorite meal to cook for his family was hours-long smoked ribs, chicken, and sausage. He would wake up at 2 am to get things going for everyone to come over for dinner. His favorite and longest-loved dogs were Daucier, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Cappy (Captain Morgan), a Dachshund.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dude and Linnie Morgan, and his wife of 52 years, Brenda Morgan of Saline, LA. He is survived by one brother, Mike Morgan (of Dodson); three children, Jim and wife Nancy (Minden, LA), Robby and wife Jennifer (Castor, LA), and Amy and husband John (Castor, LA). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Kenneth and wife Ivy, Brittany and husband Cameron, Kara and husband Andy, Laynie and husband Jared, Jacob and fiancé Madison, Macie, Johnathan, Nash, Ava, and Ella. He also has three great-grandchildren: Myles, Gracie Jo, and Levi, with two great-grandsons on the way.
A memorial service will be held at Carolina Baptist Church (253 Carolina Church Road, Saline, LA 71070) on Friday, August 21, 2026, 2 pm, and will be officiated by Bro. Ken Roberts.
