IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Harold
Mcleod
August 11, 1934 – August 6, 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of James Harold McLeod, age 88, announces his passing on August 6, 2023. James was a loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
James was born on August 11, 1934. He was one of five boys born to Amiee Lee McLeod and Cobie E. Roberts in Dawson, Georgia.
In 1949 he was enrolled in 9th grade at Fletcher Academy in Fletcher, North Carolina. He graduated from Fletcher Academy in 1952 with a desire to become a Pastor. He then studied to become a preacher at Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. He drove a panel truck delivering for Little Debbie while in college.
It was while he was at Southern Adventist University that he met Pearl Florence Jenkins. They married on September 22, 1957, and had 3 children: Christine McLeod, Melinda McLeod, and Scott McLeod.
In 1972 he started working as a check-writer salesman for the Paymaster Company, which took him to Texas, and ultimately, to Shreveport, Louisiana.
His wife of 32 years, Pearl Florence McLeod, died at the age of 50 in 1989. He then remarried in 2004 to Sara Raquel Navarro, whom he met at his church.
He is survived by his daughters, Christine and Melinda McLeod, and his son, Scott McLeod (Erin McLeod). His granddaughter Becky Blakley (Sean Blakely), his great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Brooke Blakely, and his grandsons, Joshua and Logan McLeod, as well as his wife Sara McLeod, his stepdaughter Michele Pereira (Mario Pereira) and his step-granddaughter, Natalie Pereira.
Jim was a passionate lover of the outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, cave exploring, camping, and metal detecting. He also loved collecting coins, old bottles, and antiques.
He was lucky to find a super rare Civil War Confederate CS, 11 Star Belt Buckle, while metal detecting. It was the find of a lifetime of which he was very proud.
Jim was a proud American, always flying the American flag in front of the house wherever he lived. He was heavily involved in his church, serving in many capacities throughout the years.
Jim was a hard worker and an amazing provider for his family. He had an incredible sense of humor and was always doing the daily crosswords and jumble puzzles.
James will be missed dearly by his loving wife of 19 years, his three children, three grandchildren, and extended family.
A memorial service will be held on September 17, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. at the Shreveport South Seventh-Day Adventist Church on 3217 Colquitt Rd. Shreveport, LA 71118.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shreveport South Seventh-Day Adventist Church in his name to help continue spreading the gospel to all of Shreveport.
