James Leon Williams Sr., beloved husband, father, Pawpaw, brother, uncle and friend entered into rest peacefully on March 20, 2021. During his last week he happily greeted relatives and friends. On his final night he had moments of singing, laughter and prayer with his family. As they reminisced, recalling the unforgettable memories that bound them in love he stated, "That means you're stuck with me!" With his loyal, loving wife at his side he passed peacefully in his sleep knowing that he is loved.
Stubborn, hardworking, rough hands, generous, kind, honorable, a man of few words, all around handyman, no-need-for-directions, those-left over-screws-don't-matter, I-don't-know-but-I'll-try, impatient at times, big smile, heartfelt hugger, compassionate heart, person of integrity, big friend of children, lover of family, friends, and God are some of the ways in which he was described. James leaves behinds a legacy of love in action. He literally gave his time, energy, body, health, and money till it hurt; sometimes he wanted to give more. Truly, he was blessed to be used by God to help so many people.
James was born August 22, 1945 in Shreveport LA where he lived for the entirety of his life. He married his soulmate, on August 30, 1964, and together, parented five beautiful children. A graduate of George Washington High School, home of the "Hornets", he went on to study at Southern University and later earned a certification in HVAC from Louisiana Vocational and Technical College. Though he never received his licenses, he was well known by his peers and many others as an electrician. Blessed with skills in many things, his abilities far exceeded his formal education and was called upon by family, relative, friends and acquaintances to fix most anything. He was a true handyman and jack of all trades.
Preceded in death by his parents, Fate Richard Williams Sr and Mary (Whitt) Williams; and brother, Fate Richard Williams Jr. He is survived by his wife, Alice M (Houston) Williams; two daughters, Jane Williams and Shenika Obinyan (husband Oko); two sons, James Jr. (wife Charlotte), Jeffery Sr. (wife Kedra); and son/great nephew Perseus Pugh Sr ; sister, Ruby Lee (Williams) Henderson; one aunt Pinkie "Sweetie" Wiggins; fifteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and host of relatives and friends.
James was a pillar of our lives and will be deeply missed.
