Shreveport, Louisiana – James “Jim” Stewart Holt, age 74, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026.

Jim was born on August 28, 1952, to David and Birdie Holt in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is survived by his daughter, Ashley Warner and husband Doug; his grandchildren, Gavin Roe and wife Faith, Stella Davis, Presley Davis, and Blake Warner; and his brother, David Holt and wife Kay.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, David and Birdie Holt, and by his beloved wife of more than 32 years, Janie Holt.

A lifelong resident of Shreveport, Jim graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1971, served in the Army and later earned his degree from Louisiana State University. He dedicated 32 years of service to the City of Shreveport's Public Works Department before retiring. Jim loved his city deeply and was respected and admired by colleagues, peers, and community members for his commitment, leadership, and unwavering work ethic.

Jim possessed a true servant’s heart and spent much of his life giving back to the community he cherished. From his early involvement with Holiday in Dixie to his work with Paint Your Heart Out Shreveport, his efforts helped pave the way for countless festivals, events, and community initiatives. He served in numerous leadership roles and on several boards throughout the years, including the C.E. Byrd High School Alumni Association, the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (CADA), Oakwood Home for Women, and the Noel Methodist Food Pantry.

Whether building, repairing, delivering food, providing transportation, or simply lending a helping hand, Jim quietly and humbly served others. If something was broken, Jim could fix it. If someone needed help, Jim was there.

Of all his accomplishments, Jim was most proud of being a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend. He taught those who knew him countless lessons through both his words and his example. His kindness, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed. For many, his passing truly marks the end of an era.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 3715 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 10:00 a.m.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers who compassionately cared for Jim during his final days, as well as to the many friends and family members who visited, called, prayed, and surrounded him with love and support.
