James Kevin Garner was called home by the Lord on September 19, 2024 after a battle with lung cancer.

James was born on March 30, 1961 to John and Libby Garner in Monroe, LA.  Shortly afterward the family moved to Shreveport where James and older brother Johnny would grow up.  He attended Westwood Elementary, Oak Terrace Jr. High, and then Woodlawn High School.  He loved playing all kinds of sports that boys love, but his favorite was football.  He played center under Coach Lowell Morrison and Coach Ken Ivy while at Woodlawn, and was a part of a team that would make multiple trips to the Louisiana State playoffs, reaching the semi finals his junior and senior years.

As an adult he learned the trade of machinist, same as his father had done, and spent many years making parts for all kinds of equipment and industry.  His experience in the field was extensive.

He learned how to cook from his mama and enjoyed making home cooked meals. He loved to hunt, fish, and play golf.  You could find him at one of our local courses most summer days. He spent time with his children teaching those hobbies. He loved a fire when Fall temps would become chilly, and always had some firewood if you needed any.  He loved good music and knew how to strum a guitar.  His kids know who ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd are because of him.

Life took him to live in Dallas for a time, but he eventually came home to Shreveport/Bossier where his family and friends had always been.

Most of all he loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and his faith was set on Him.  He was a prayer warrior.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth "Libby" Garner.

He is survived by his wife Maggie, father John Garner, son Chase Garner and wife Melissa, daughter Kelly Lauren Yurdagul and husband Art, son Hunter Garner, brother Johnny Garner and wife Donna, niece Kendall Garner, and his grandchildren Rustyn, Virginia Anne, Lennox, and Henson.

A memorial service will be held Monday 9/30/24 at Christian Center Shreveport, 207 Idema St. at 10:00am with informal visitation starting at 9:00am.
