On September 24, 2026, James Richard “Rick” Butler was called home to be with his Heavenly Father following a courageous and lengthy illness. Though his passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and has received the promise of eternal life.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Angelena Ashley Butler, the love of his life who remained by his side throughout his illness, caring for him with extraordinary love, strength and tenderness. Rick will be lovingly remembered by his children Warren Butler, Whitney Butler Ables (Tyler) and Jeremy Sitter (Alexis); and his cherished grandchildren, Sutton, Gray, Evangeline and Levi who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He also leaves behind a beloved cousin, Kyle Butler, with whom he shared countless memories and a bond that never wavered.
Rick was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Fishing at sunrise, hunting in the cool of the early morning, or simply being outside with the people he loved most were the moments that defined him. He didn’t just enjoy these activities; he lived them, breathed them, and passed them on to his children, grandchildren and loved ones with pride.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Keisha and Ebony at STAT Home Health and St. Joseph Hospice for their compassionate care, unwavering support, and kindness throughout his illness. Their dedication and loving care meant so much to him and to his family during such a difficult time.
Visitation will be Friday, October 2, 2026 from 12:30-1:00pm at Riverpark Church, 3232 East 70th Street, Shreveport, LA. 71105. A Celebration of Life service honoring Rick will follow at 1:30pm at the same location. All who knew and loved Rick are invited to join as we come together to celebrate his life and honor his memory.
Rick leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, integrity, laughter, and unwavering love that will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him. His absence will be felt deeply, but his spirit will remain in every story told, every tradition carried on, and every quiet moment spent outdoors in his honor.
