Obituary

James B. "Buck" Trussell of Shreveport died on December 20th, 2023, due to complications from a long illness.

Born on May 15th, 1939, in Dubach, Louisiana to parents John Cumby Trussell and Ruth Enloe Hicks, he graduated from Byrd High School in Shreveport in 1958. He attended Louisiana State University, Northwestern State University, and New Mexico Military Institute.

Buck was a decorated Army officer, a helicopter aviator in the Air Cavalry, who completed two tours of Viet Nam. After twenty years of service which took his family around the US and Europe, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and returned to Shreveport in 1982 to pursue various opportunities in the private sector. While his Army career was of the highest honor, one would never have known it; Buck was humble to his core. He took the greatest pride in his wife Rosalind, his children, and his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalind Durham Trussell. They were married in 1961 and enjoyed 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2014. Buck and Roz had a precious gift—they loved each other deeply for every day of their life together.

Buck was a virtuous and compassionate man blessed with rare wisdom and a huge heart. His warmth and humor lifted everyone with who knew him. He was our hero.

Buck is survived by his son James B. Trussell, Jr. and his wife Rachel of Picayune, MS; son Scott Trussell, his wife Anita, and grandchildren Zachary, Spencer, and Katherine of Baton Rouge, LA; daughter Susan Trussell of Anchorage, AK and grandchildren Alice Sarredet of Fresno, CA, Andrew Duck of Memphis, TN and Isabella Duck of Anchorage, AK; son Joseph, and grandchildren Lindsey and Megan of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Judy Durham of Shreveport, LA, and many others in his extended family and friendships whose lives he touched.

Memorial services will be held at Auld's Funeral Home, 7849 E. Kings Hwy, Shreveport, LA on February 3, 2024. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM followed by service at 3:00 PM.
