Obituary

Jack L. Grindle, M.D. retired physician, passed peacefully on Saturday May 16, 2015 after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 20th at 11AM at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Mansfield with Father Michael Millard officiating. A short reception will follow the service in the church Parish Hall. Dr. Grindle was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 29th, 1923, to William Henry Grindle and Elizabeth Rafert Grindle. He was a 1947 Graduate of Tulane Medical School in New Orleans. Prior to that Dr.Grindle attended Brownsville Junior College and University of Texas in Austin. He interned at New Orleans Charity Hospital from 1947 - 1949, where he met his Wife of 68 years, Bonnie Thomas Grindle. In 1949 Dr. Grindle entered the US Navy and served with distinction as a Navy Doctor. Upon his release from the Navy Dr. Grindle returned to New Orleans Charity Hospital, where he was until 1954, when he was named Clinical Director and Chief Surgeon of Lafayette Charity Hospital. Dr. Grindle practiced medicine in Mansfield from September 1955, until his retirement in 1988. For several years after, Dr. Grindle worked at Christus Shumpert Hospital in the Emergency Room. During his career in Mansfield, Dr. Grindle served as DeSoto Parish Coroner for 51years. In 2012 he and wife Bonnie moved to The Oaks Retirement Community in Shreveport, where they have enjoyed many new friends and are loved by the community. He was preceded in death by Daughter Mary Beth Grindle, and his parents. He is survived by his loving Wife Bonnie, Son William Grindle and his Son Jack Z. Grindle, Daughter Jacki Lynn Robb and her Husband Richard along with their Daughter Tiffany and her Husband Ramon, who have one Daughter, Abby, Granddaughter Allyson Prestidge and Husband Tony, One Sister Joyce Newton and her two Daughters Barbie and Nancy, and their Husbands Ralph and Pat. The family would like to offer special acknowledgement to Dr. Grindle's close friend and Deputy Coroner for many years, Ron Crager and his wife Sherry, his close friend and advisor Charles Clawson, Jr. as well as our lifelong family friend, and so much more, Rita Purvis. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Grindle would be grateful for contributions to Charity. Among his favorites were The American Cancer Society and Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Grindle was fortunate to be loved by so many. He served his country, his family and his community.
