The family will receive friends at the church Saturday, December 28, 2013 from 12:00 noon until the service starts. Arrangements by Aulds Funeral Home, 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, LA. Mr. Lytle was born on November 30, 1917 in Houston, TX. He was the son of Leo Bell Lytle and Floyd Marjorie Hughes Lytle. He lived in Shreveport, LA most of his life, where he met the love of his life, Nellie Mae David, and they were married February 25, 1940 in Siloam Springs, AR. After 68 happy years, she preceded him to Glory on April 23, 2008. Together they raised eight wonderful children. Mr. Lytle went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 23, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. J. Fred's interests included but were not limited to: reading, photography, poetry, stamp collecting, and wood working of every sort. There was never a challenge he could not meet. His high school yearbook ascribed him with the motto: "I'll find a way or make one, that's the way my battles are won." He proudly served his country during World War II when he volunteered for service in the U.S. Army. He founded Southern Woodcraft and ran it successfully from 1948 to 1971 when he sold it. He then began a whole new enterprise by opening an arts and craft store well known locally as Lytle's of Shreveport, Inc. J. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, his youngest son, Frank Kane Lytle; his granddaughter, Laura Judith Simmons; son-in-law, Billy Wright; his sisters, Pansy Meador and Alice Dillahunty, and his identical twin brother, Frank C. Lytle. He was a loving and devoted husband who tenderly took care of his wife, Nellie Mae, through all the stages of Alzheimer's. Left to cherish his memory and live by his example are his sons, David, Mark and wife, Jennifer, and Leo and wife, Valerie; his daughters, Judy Simmons and husband, David, Jane Gill and husband, Kent, Jill Baillio, and Jennie Wright; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, many nieces and nephews and very special "almost daughters", Carolyn Lindsay Blaikie, Barbara Lindsay Spinks, and Donna Lindsay Sanders. J. Fred was loved, respected, and treasured by all who knew him. He encouraged his children to set their goals high and to work hard because they had the ability to accomplish anything. In addition to his children, many young men sought his wisdom and guidance throughout the years. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons. The family requests that any memorial donation be made on behalf of his great-niece, who is battling a serious illness, as follows: Lizzy Lou Medical Fund at Campus Federal Credit Union, 1555 E. 70th St., Shreveport, LA 71105 or to the charity of your choice. The family extends a special thanks to Mary Denney, his niece, for her tender care and Hospice of Shreveport/Bossier.
