Obituary

Isham "Smitty" Brewster Smith

Isham, loving husband, Daddy-O, Pappy-O, and friend to many, was born October 23, 1952, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He grew up here with his brother Bill, and three sisters Lucy, Lillian, and Merle. He earned his badge as an Eagle Scout, and he never let his kids forget all of his tricks he learned back then. He enjoyed bowling in his younger years, in a bowling league in the 70's.  After graduating from Woodlawn High School class of 1971, he went to work for Western Electric and Evergreen Nursery. He then began his true passion in life, working for Home Depot Shreveport as their horticulturist, where he enjoyed 34 years of sincerely helping people in the garden department. Because of his excellent customer service and passion for flowers he helped many people with their gardening needs. If he were off on a day that a customer came in looking for help, many would come back when they knew he would be there because they wanted his expert opinion. He enjoyed sharing his wisdom on any local news channel that would afford him the opportunity. He was a member of numerous botanical societies, such as Orchid, Herb, Bonsai, Rose, and the Native Plant Society. He thoroughly enjoyed working out at Willis Knighton Fitness center and his water aerobics classes with his precious trainer Shanda. He was a member of River Park Church. He wholeheartedly believed in the power of prayer and trusting God with His plan for his life.

When he got his diagnosis, he was devastated to have to stop working to protect his immune system, but only Isham saw his cancer as a blessing that prolonged his life. He always had a way of turning a bad thing into something good. He believed him being home these last 4 years
was a blessing given to him by God Almighty because the covid pandemic came just 3 months after and took many lives as we all know. So, in his eyes, he got an extra 4 years with all of us.  Isham's final move to Heaven was in his home, with his loving wife of 27 years on the evening of
Tuesday July 16, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his Father Isham Estes Smith, and Mother Eunice Mae Hanson, and brother-in-law George Wiley and sister-in-law, Ginger Smith.

He is survived by his Wife - Robin H. Smith, Daughters: Jill Marion Maguire, and Randi Rain Ivey (Justin). Son: Ben Clark (Sonya).
Granddaughters: Corbyn and Reece Maguire, Grandsons: Jackson and Logan Ivey, along with his brothers and sisters in law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Isham was a selflessly devoted Husband and Father, worker, & friend. He was an adventure seeker, nature lover, waterfall chaser, State Park enthusiast, rock hounder, and ice cream connoisseur.

Some life lessons he often quoted to his loved ones were: "Don't worry, be happy, cause every little thing is gonna be alright", "Peace is worth it at twice the price", "Love ya much." "Can ya dig it?"

The family can't thank you enough to Autumn, his wonderful hospice nurse at Capassus and to Dr. V at Willis Knighton Cancer institute for their expert comfort & tender loving care.

Services celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at City Church Shreveport 230 Flournoy Lucas Rd. Shreveport, Louisiana 71106. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Pastor Joel May. The family asks that you wear bright colorful clothing to
