Funeral Services for Herbert Lee Jones will be conducted at 12 noon, Monday, February 27, 2023, at the Aulds Funeral Home chapel in Shreveport, Louisiana, with Pastor Stephen Sorrell officiating. Interment will be 2 p.m. at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana. Visitation will also be Monday at the chapel at 11:00 a.m.
Herbert, 73, was born June 21, 1949, in Center, TX. He was the only son of Herbert Lacie Jones and Marjorie Turner Jones. He went Home to be with Jesus, February 19, 2023, at his home in Bossier City, LA.
Though born in Center, he actually lived most of his younger years in Timpson, TX, with his parents and older sister, Annie Marie Jones Faires. Later, he and his parents moved to Center where he graduated High School, then attended Panola Junior College, and Stephen F. Austin University.
He joined the United States Air Force in 1973 where he served for 20 years with at least 13 being overseas. He was stationed at Edwards, Alconbury, Weisbaden, Okinawa, and Korea. He retired a TSgt in 1993 at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City where he's lived with his wife Tae Yon for the past 25 years. After retirement he worked various part time jobs, but in more recent years, he spent much of his time working on his lifelong passion, writing.
"I want to write like that; I always wanted to write like that, and around the age of 65, I realized I had better get busy doing it before I ran out of time. I have written one novel and one short story, and I hope I have time to write more. I want to go on another adventure, and I hope some others will enjoy coming along." ~Herb Jones
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Joseph Miguel Jones, and his first wife, Lynda Button Jones Risen, the mother of his two sons.
Survivors include his wife, Tae Yon Jones, of Bossier City; son, David Jones, of Shreveport, LA; son Mark Jones and wife Melissa, their children Evar, Kara, Aubree, and Ember, all of Henderson, KY; nephews Jimmy Faires and wife Mary of Bossier City; Larry Faires and wife Sheree' of Shreveport/Bossier; Donny Faires and wife Jodi of Keithville, LA; and several great and great, great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be David Jones, Mark Jones, Evar Jones, Jimmy Faires, Sr, Jimmy Faires, Jr, Donny Faires with honorary pallbearer, Larry Faires.
