Helen Gravier Okes was born on January 25th, 1924 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She went to be in the arms of the Lord on her 92nd birthday on January 25th, 2016, while surrounded by her family and friends that she so loved. Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband Wilbert Ray Okes, former husband Cecil Leon Odom, Sr., mother Nora Lillian Gravier, father Felix Gravier, and sisters Ruth Lasiter and Dorothy Holley. Helen was a long time member of Willow Point Baptist Church, formerly Queensborough Baptist Church. She was a devoted Mother/Granny, and raised not only her children, but grandchildren as well, and pretty much anyone else who came through her door. Helen devoted her life to the care of others. She is survived by her daughter Nora Odom Presley and partner Ronald Morrissey, son Cecil Leon Odom, Jr., granddaughter Tonya L. Cook and husband Jesse, grandson Anthony Lynn Odom and wife Frankee, granddaughter Jennifer Bailey Acklen and husband Brad, grandson Chris Bailey and wife Kalli, and beloved neice Barbara Lasiter Brazeal and husband Jim. Helen was most proud of her great-grandchildren Katilyn, Cody, Chad, Tyler, & Carter, and great-great-grandson Maxx. Helen leaves behind numerous other family members and friends who love her dearly. Graveside service will be held at 11:00am Monday, February 1, 2016 at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Merriweather Rd., Shreveport, Louisiana, 71109. A graveside visitation will be held from 10-11:00am prior to the service. Flowers should be sent to Aulds Funeral Home 7849 East Kings Hwy, Shreveport, Louisiana 71115 no later than 5pm on Friday, January 29th, 2016. Helen requested instead of flowers, to please donate to Willow Point Baptist Church, the Baptist Children's Home, or First United Methodist Church of Waskom, Texas. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Billy Bickham & Dr. Joseph Jones for their long time care and geniune concern for our family, all of the doctors, therapists, nurses, and caregivers who have been so supportive and helpful throughout Helen's journey. Special thanks to Aime Hospice for going above and beyond to help make our family feel loved, prayed for, and supported during our final days with Helen. All she wanted was to be in HER home, and thanks to Aime, that was possible. Pallbearers are Cecil Leon Odom, Jr., Ronald Morrissey, Jimmy Davis Sr, Jesse Cook, Ty Cook, and Carter Cook.
