Gloria Gutierrez Johnson gained her heavenly wings on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the age of 86. She was born in Shreveport, LA on December 10, 1938, to Mary Hanks and Wallace Hanks. Gloria is well known and loved for her profession at Vision of Hope, AKA, Volunteers of America North Louisiana, where she helped many people who have struggled with their mental health by providing resources for their recovery, such as finding them jobs, helping them get back on their feet after a hard time, and giving them a listening ear. She had a passion for helping those in need.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Wallace Hank; her sister, Betty Weiss; her brother, Bobby Gutierrez; her loving husband, Thomas Johnson; and her 2 sons, Merle and Marty McClanahan. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Emerson and her husband Wayne Emerson, her son, Christopher Johnson and his wife, Melissa Johnson, and her son, Michael McClanahan, as well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is also survived by her pets; her dog, Velvet, and her cat, Sammy.
Our beloved Gloria will always be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and her warm smile. She loved Jesus, working in her garden, going on family camping trips, and crocheting. She was very proud of finishing her first crocheted shawl. She touched the hearts of many people with her willingness to help, nurture, and support. Gloria was a beautiful light in everyone's lives that had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. Her laughter was contagious, and her hugs were the best. Being in the presence of her family and friends always gave her joy. Gloria was an incredibly brave and strong woman who will always be loved and missed. Her radiant spirit is now in Heaven watching over us. We love you so very much, Gloria.
There will be a memorial service for Gloria on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Auld's Funeral Home, 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, LA 71115.
