Gertrude Luster was born on July 8, 1928, to Lucion Cooper, Sr. and Lillie Mae Cooper in Bude, Mississippi. She was the mother of eight (8) children; Edith Strickland, Gloria Ingram, Kaye Frances Luster, Thelma Luster, and Larry Luster (who preceded her in death).

On September 2, 2023, Gertrude Luster departed this life at the age of 95.

Cherishing her memories are her sons, John W. James (Theresa Clemons James), Cornell James and Armand James III; Her siblings, Lessie Mae Marshall, Roosevelt Cooper, Lucion Cooper, Jr. (who preceded her in death) and Proby Cooper. Also cherishing her memory is a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
