Obituary

Gay Maria Keller Sorensen, 90, died on June 30, 2026, in Bossier City, Louisiana. She was born on May 27, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan, and was the only child of Gay Grace Constable Keller and Johann Keller.

Gay married Donald Roger Sorensen on March 14, 1959. Prior to his death on May 13, 2017, they traveled the world together visiting more than 130 countries and circling the world twice. She was a high school art teacher and was incredibly smart, sassy, and talented. She enjoyed creating beautiful jewelry, clothing, paintings, drawings, stained glass, porcelain dolls, and bears. She was always eager to share her creations with others. She had a story for everything and every piece of art, every trinket and every treasure she collected during her travels had an adventure attached to it. After retirement she and Don moved from Mt. Clemons, Michigan to Punta Gorda Florida in 1992 and they joined First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte. They were active in the church and while there she designed and directed the creation of the church's beautiful stained-glass windows. A book was published documenting her contribution to the window project. She was a master gardener and was active in the Deep Creek Garden Club for twenty years. In 2022 her health began to decline and she moved from Florida to Bossier City, Louisiana to be near her son. While in Bossier City she made many new friends and continued to create and share her talents.

Gay was loved and will be greatly missed by her son, Eric Sorensen; her nieces Debbie Lewis and Julie Schweinsberg; Elaine Morgan and her children Danyale Greer, Chelsea Ray, Darcy Stewart and Allie Ballard along with their families.

No local services will be held. Per her wishes, Gay will be cremated and laid to rest in the memorial garden at First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte, Florida.
