Obituary

Frances Marie (Matranga) Cush, was called home on May 1, 2024, in Bossier City, Louisiana, at the age of 86. She was born on May 5, 1937, in Shreveport, Louisiana. As a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Frances's life was a tapestry of faith and love that touched all who knew her.

Frances leaves behind a legacy of faith and devotion: her beloved daughter, Angelina Cascio; her devoted son and caretaker, Kevin Cush Sr.; her faithful daughters-in-law, Laura and Stacey. She was a treasured grandmother to Ashley (Chris) Timmons, Alicia (Jeremy) Cascio LaFitte, April Cascio, Kevin Jr. (Rachel) Cush, Megan (Corban) Taylor, and 11 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Andrew, Colton, Cannon, Haydn, Evelyn, Harper, Gianluca, Trenton, Hannah, and Haven. Frances leaves behind her loving companion, Anthony (Tony) Brewster and his family Sarah, Bruce, Cruz, and Garrett Kinney and a host of relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Mary (Roppolo) Matranga, her loving husband of 39 years, Anthony Joseph Cush; her dear son, Michael Anthony Cush; and her respected son-in-law, Andrew John Cascio.

Frances was a proud graduate of C.E Byrd High School. Frances initially embraced a career as a beautician before joining the family grocery store. She then found her true calling as a legal secretary, a role in which she served with integrity and distinction for 25 years. After retirement, she also bestowed care on others as a caretaker, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Her dedication to her profession was second only to the devotion she held for her family and her Catholic faith.

A lifelong and dedicated parishioner of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, Frances's unwavering faith and fervent prayers were a cornerstone of her existence. Her prayer book and rosary were constant companions, symbols of her spiritual commitment. She instilled in her family the sacred values of compassion, patience, and generosity that were the hallmarks of her character.  She exemplified these characteristics by giving to her family and helping when they were in need. Her Sicilian heritage was a source of pride and was celebrated through her love of family gatherings and traditional cuisine.

Frances, known for her impeccable style and grace, never wavered in her attention to elegance. Her sharp wit and endearing charm earned her affectionate nicknames, and she was a beloved figure in her community. An enthusiast of "Jeopardy" and video poker, Frances had a zest for life that was infectious. When she wasn't ruling the roost, you could find Frances playing video poker, turning pennies into dollars with the same magic touch that she turned frowns upside down.
Special thanks to her sitter, Connie, for being her support for the past year.

The family extends an invitation for friends and acquaintances to join them in paying their last respects at Auld's Funeral Home in Shreveport, Louisiana. Visitation is arranged for the evening of May 7, from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm, with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Charles Glorioso on May 8, at 10:00 am at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans Catholic Church, followed by the committal service at Forest Park Cemetery where she will be laid to rest.
