Obituary

Fran McRae passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024 in Shreveport, Louisiana, after a happy, long and productive life.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 1:30 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 275 Southfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana.  A reception will follow in the McRae Youth Lodge at St. Paul's.  All are welcome to attend.

Fran was a long-time resident of Shreveport, born 1931 in Boone County, Arkansas.  She was preceded in death by her husband Duncan McRae, Jr., her parents Mr. and Mrs. Pete Fagan, and her siblings Peter Fagan, Berniece Dean, Beatrice Thompson, Guy Lester Fagan and Bill Fagan.

Fran grew up in the Harrison, Arkansas area and later Kansas City, Kansas, where she earned an Associates Degree in Journalism.  She moved to Tulsa and became a stewardess with American Airlines.  It was there she met Duncan McRae, the love of her life.  Duncan and Fran were happily married sixty-nine years.

Fran's passions were her family, the congregation of St. Paul's, her gardening, and her Anna Lee doll collection.  She was on the Altar Guild and a member of the Vestry at St. Paul's, was a Girl Scout Brownie leader and a Cub Scout Den mother for her children.  Fran contributed her creativity to the success of the family business - Melton Truck Lines.   She produced the Melton Magazine using her journalism background, created the Ambassador's Club for Melton's elite truck drivers, designed company terminals throughout the country, and managed the company payroll.

Fran is survived by her children, Terri McRae and Bill McRae (Tam), 3 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.  She leaves behind a loving extended family, and many great friends.

Our family would like to thank Kelsey Darsi and the staff at Life Path Hospice, Sheldon Snow, Hope Edwards and the staff of Leading Home Care, and Dr. Scott McRight and his staff.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 275 Southfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71105, or the charity of your choice.
