Obituary

Enora Mayeaux Manuel, age 88 of Shreveport, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2019 after a brief illness. She was born in Vidrine, Louisiana to the late Nazy Mayeaux  and the late Celesten Mayeaux on February 12, 1930.

Always known as Nora, she was a loving mother and homemaker. God gave her two children to raise as children of God. She nurtured them and always loved both of her daughters unconditionally. She was the cheerleader of the family. She was a devoted mother and always raised her girls to have more opportunities than she had growing up during the Great Depression. She always said, "Education is your foundation; it is your window to more opportunities."

Nora treasured her husband of 55 years. Always made sure he felt valued because he worked so hard to provide for his family. Their love will always survive. Her last surviving sibling, Ray Mayeaux, she loved and protected him with all her heart.

Nora was a remarkable cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends, most especially over the holidays. For many years, she collected a large library of cookbooks.  Cajun and Creole food was her specialty. No meal was prepared without rice and gravy.

Nora was a phenomenal quilt maker. She made quilts for her home as well as for her children and most of her grandchildren, and her church before she had a stroke in 2014. Cookbooks and quilting pattern books were her passion. She loved to watch tutorials and quilting programs during her spare time. Nora was a charter member of the  Red River Quilters, and won 1 st place for one of her quilts in the Red River Revel.

She was a true follower of Christ in the Catholic church. Nora served as an Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Catholic church until she had a stroke. She never wanted to miss church or any church functions.

She loved her family, friends, and church.

Left to cherish her love and memory are her husband Raynold (Tom) Manuel; her brother, Ray Mayeaux; her two daughters, Jodie Manuel Dean and her husband, Forrest Glen Dean,  and Amy Celeste Manuel; stepdaughters, Patsy Veillon and her husband, David Veillon, and Linda Berzas and her husband, Norman Berzas; grandchildren, Mary Katherine Dean-Wood and her husband Logan Wood, Lindsay Dean Fortenberry and her husband, Judge Fortenberry, Christopher Dean, Sophie Dean, Crystal Rena Manuel, Louis Andrew Knotts, and Charles Matthew Daniels Jr.; step-grandchildren, Vikki Veillon Drosos and husband Steve Drosos, David Veillon, Mark Veillon, Sarah Beth Miller and her husband Ted Miller, and Ashley Clark and her husband, Gerald Clark; great-grandchildren, Carma Manuel, Graysen Manuel, and Willow Knotts; she also had twelve step-great-grandchildren and one step-great great-grandchild.  Many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members that she stretched out her love and devotion to.

A visitation will be held from 2-5pm on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Aulds Funeral Home in Shreveport (7849 East Kings Highway). A funeral mass will be held 10:30am Monday, November 11, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport, with burial to follow at Te Mamou Cemetery in Ville Platte.
