IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edwin Eugene
"Ed" Rushing
July 21, 1936 – June 8, 2024
Edwin Eugene "Ed" Rushing of Shreveport, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the age of 87. Ed was born in Homer, Louisiana, on July 21, 1936. He cherished growing up in the Homer Oilfield. In his book, "A Little Bit of Life: As Long as We Didn't Bleed…Growing Up in the Homer Oilfield", he compiled wonderful stories of his youth – and it is quite a read! Ed was devoted to his family and friends. He was the person everyone depended on, always willing to help, and the caregiver to many. Ed graduated from Homer High School and then attended Louisiana Tech. He began his work career at the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant in Minden and later, he was the Clerk of the Caddo Parish Juvenile Court in Shreveport for over 30 years.
Born to James Elliott and Maggie Norton Rushing, Ed was the youngest of eight siblings, all of whom predeceased him: Colon Rushing (Vera Warden), Eloise Rushing Tinsley (Audrey), Edith Rushing Holomon (Leon), Hollie Rushing (Mary Belle McKenzie), John Elliott Rushing (killed in WWII), Margaret Rushing Spivey (Bernard Spivey, Jr.), and W. G. Rushing (Patricia Murphy). Also preceding him in death were nieces and nephews he dearly loved: Elsie Tinsley Day, Linda Tinsley, James Holomon, Jeri Holomon, Harry "Mac" Rushing, Walt Rushing, and Anita Spivey. Left to cherish their uncle's memory are Charles E. (Buster) Rushing, Paul Wayne Rushing, John D. Tinsley, Beverly Holomon, Sarah Rushing Benson, Sherry Spivey Guarisco, R. Mark Spivey, J. Duane Spivey, Susan Spivey Young, Jeanne Rushing Pitman, Patti Rushing Webb, and many great nieces and nephews. Ed is also survived by Joe and Rachel Lomastro and their sons Aaron and Logan, a loving family he considered as his own.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Paul Rushing, Azalea Estates of Shreveport, Golden Gate Nursing Services, and Health Center at Live Oak for their competent and tender care over the last few years. In place of flowers, a donation to a charity helping children or veterans would be an immense honor to Ed.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation followed by a memorial service, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at noon, at Auld's Funeral Home, 7849 East Kings Highway, Shreveport, Louisiana 71115.
