IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward Marcy
Tobey
August 16, 1934 – November 7, 2025
Edward Marcy Tobey, known affectionately by many as "Fred," "Mr. Fantastic," and "Pop," of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on November 7, 2025, at the age of 91. He was born on August 16, 1934.
Marcy was preceded in death by his first wife, June Snell Tobey; his father, Edward Drake Tobey; his mother, Leola Huckabay Tobey; his brother, Robert Francis Tobey; and his beloved youngest son, Robert Drake Tobey. He found love again and is survived by his wife of 35 years, Diane Taylor Tobey. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Evelyn Tobey; brother-in-law, William Clint Snell; two sons, Edward Timothy (wife Tami) Tobey and James Scott (wife Noelle) Tobey; and several nieces and nephews. Numerous grandchildren were adored by Pop—Courtlyn (husband Brandon) Parker, Alex (wife Sadie) Tobey, Dr.Tyler Tobey, Tanner Tobey, Trevor Tobey, and Taylor Tobey. He also found great joy spending time with his great-grandchild, Hudson Parker.
Fred grew up in Shreveport and graduated from Fair Park High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from LSU. He took over the family business, E.T. Tobey Company, in the 1960s and transformed the printing company into an all-inclusive office supply and retail furniture outlet. In later years, he narrowed the scope of the business to office furniture. He found his passion in the "hunt" for exclusive furniture deals at auction sales and furniture markets. He was a doting husband, loving father, and phenomenal friend who will be remembered for his incredible optimism, sweet smile, and Christian values.
The family would like to extend a special note of gratitude to the nurses—Lindsey, Debbie, Cash, and many others—and the doctors of CHRISTUS Hospice of Shreveport-Bossier who provided exceptional care and kindness to Fred and the family during this time.
A memorial service will be held on November 26, 2025, at King's Highway Christian Church at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
