Obituary

Edward Thomas "Ed" Price, 88, of Shreveport, died Friday, August 1, 2025, at Carpenter House with his loved ones by his side, following a brief illness.

Born September 18, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Ed graduated from Arsenal Technical High and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves until he moved to Shreveport in 1965.

Ed was the first member of the management team of the new "Pilot Plant" of Western Electric (later known as AT&T and Lucent Technologies). He served as the head and teacher of Tool and Die Making and worked his way up to engineer. He retired after 40 years, then returned under contract for three years. In retirement, Ed built the successful lawn care business "Mr. Ed's Yard Service", which he operated alone until last year. At one time, he had 39 clients.

Ed loved to bowl and was a valuable member of several teams into his 80s. He spent many days fishing on Caddo Lake, Lake Bistineau and Toledo Bend Reservoir, and enjoyed hunting with his brother-in-law and nephew, Norvel and Kris Blaylock.

Although he was raised in a secular home, each Sunday Ed and his sister Barbara walked to Hillside Christian Church in Indianapolis, where he received a Bible for perfect attendance. At 12, he became a Christian. Ed was a member of Ellerbe Baptist Church and Adult 5 Bible Study for 13 years.

A celebration of Ed's life will be held Saturday, August 23, 2025, with visitation at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., at Ellerbe Baptist, 10705 Ellerbe Road, Shreveport, with the Rev. Dennis Sims officiating. Music will be provided by Ed's nephews, Gordon and Bryan Kennedy.

He and his wife, Kathy, loved to cruise, especially to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, and frequently vacationed in Nashville and The Smokies. They were known for their huge Christmas parties/family reunions where Ed's smoked brisket was the coveted dish. Ed loved and trained many dogs and rescued his last dog several years ago from a lawn-care customer who did not want her any longer. "Little Bitt" never left his side and would often sleep on top of Ed's pillow.

Ed and Kathy married in 1988, and Ed became a beloved member of her huge extended family. He is survived by his wife, Kathy Kennedy Price of Shreveport; a sister-in-law, Barbara Kennedy Blaylock of Bossier; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Delores Kennedy of Nashville; two nieces, Kristi Blaylock Bellamy of Tyler and Terri Jarvis of Indianapolis; nephews and nieces Kristopher and Mindy Blaylock of Benton; Gordon and Tracey Kennedy, and Shelby and Sheri Kennedy, all of Brentwood, Tennessee; and Bryan Kennedy of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, many other relatives and friends, including Janet Edens of Frankfort, Indiana, and Dennis Daughtry of Shreveport.

Predeceased in death by his parents, Clarence "Doc" and Georganna Price; a sister, Barbara Price Williams; a brother, Roger Price; a son Edward Thomas Price III; a brother-in-law, Norvel Blaylock; a nephew, Andy Bellamy; and his beloved mother-in-law, Essie Laird Kennedy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ninna's Road to Rescue (https://www.roadtorescuela.org/).
