IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eddie Charles
Weathersby
September 3, 1951 – June 28, 2024
Eddie Charles Weathersby, 72, of Shreveport, LA, died peacefully in his home on June 28, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born in El Dorado, AR, on September 3, 1951, to Charles Owen Weathersby and Janice Miriam Beevers Weathersby and was raised mainly in Bossier City, LA.
"Butch," as his family called him, was always industrious and began working, mowing lawns, at age 6, even buying his first rifle at that age.
He was also quite the intellectual, an avid reader, and enjoyed listening to Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky while studying.
After graduating from Airline High School (Bossier City) in 1969, Eddie spent a year at LSUS. Although his draft number would have never come up, he felt it his duty to enlist in the Navy, serving from September of 1970 until June of 1976, with two tours to Vietnam. He loved the sea and often spoke of missing those times on his ship, USS Hull DD 945. In fact, that number being significant to him comically became his bedtime each evening - 9:45!
He retired from C.F. Biggs as a Senior Support Analyst in the technical and service department after 20 years of faithful service. He then enjoyed his hobby of remodeling his home with his own creative touches. A passionate man, Eddie never did anything halfway, and he gave his all to every project he undertook.
Eddie, being a man of honor and duty, felt a compulsion to meet the needs of others, especially their spiritual needs, which was evidenced by his urgency to share his faith with everyone he met, as well as his weekly Sunday school lessons. He had an unquenchable hunger and thirst for God's Word and was constantly studying, remembering everything he ever read.
While he was ready to go to Heaven from the moment he found out he had cancer, he also saw the value in continuing to preach Christ as long as he was given on this earth. His "lighthouse" devotions on Facebook were an inspiration to many and drew his family and friends to a closer relationship with Jesus, as was his fervent desire.
Eddie is preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles and Janice Weathersby of Bossier City, LA ; his previous wife, Debbie Farmer Weathersby; his brother, Tommy Lynn Weathersby; and his daughter, Carrie Weathersby.
He is survived by his wife of almost 14 years, Amy McClung Weathersby; his sons, Eric and David Weathersby; his daughters-in-law, Kimberly and Marisela Weathersby; his daughter, Piper Weathersby and her fiancé Cornell Thomas; his sister, Sherrie Bonner; his aunt, Peggy Couch (John); his grandchildren, Bethany (Jeffrey), Daniel, Hunter, Grace, Ellie, Austin (Kristin), Owen, and Jamie; his great grandson, Madox; his nieces, Tammie Rose and Courtney Davis and many more beloved family.
He was also blessed later in life with stepchildren - Mary Graham (Jared), grandchildren Eden, Shiloh, Jordan and Zion; Anna Carroll (David), grandchildren Darcy and Alayna; and Paul Daffern.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Saturday morning, July 20, at 10 am (lots of good music and pictures starting at 9:45 - there's that number again!) at First Baptist Church Greenwood, 7042 Howell Street in Greenwood, LA.
One of the last things Eddie said was this: "I want my friends to know that I love them and have done my best to provide for their spiritual needs."
