Ed Baswell, age 73, passed away on August 27, 2026, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Marshall, Texas, on November 14, 1952, he was the son of a southern Baptist preacher. Throughout his childhood, he moved around Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, when his father answered God’s calls to preach at various churches.

Ed graduated from Tulsa University with a Communications degree and moved to Shreveport where he became a news anchor at KSLA Channel 12. He eventually moved to KTBS in 1977, where he landed his dream job - Sports Director. He felt so blessed to be able to earn a living, combining his two loves - sports and journalism. He remained at KTBS until 1997, covering numerous sporting events. Along the way, he got to interview some of the biggest names in the sporting world, including his favorite player, Larry Bird.

During his television career, Ed felt the calling for him to surrender to the ministry and preach God’s word, so he answered the call, and became an ordained minister. After that, he pastored small churches across Louisiana. He often credited his own parents for their consistent prayers that he would be obedient to God’s will. After leaving KTBS, he became the public information officer for the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, where he remained until his retirement. Working in the sheriff’s office inspired him to form a prison ministry and write several books with messages of hope and salvation.

Ed loved his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Cindy Baswell. He leaves behind a daughter, Shelly Baswell Corkern, her husband, Jon Corkern, and their son, Drew Stroud. Also left to cherish his memory are his son, Greg Baswell, his wife, Ashley Baswell, and their four children: Emsley, Anson, Ryerson, and Lachlan. In addition, he leaves behind a core group of friends of more than forty years, who loved him, prayed for him, and faithfully checked on him, especially during the last few years of his illness. The family would like to thank them for their support and care. It will never be forgotten.

A memorial service honoring Ed’s life will be held later in the fall. Ed’s earthly journey has ended, but the faith that he treasured so dearly offers the promise and the hope that good-bye is not eternal. Ed had the assurance of being completely healed and being in the arms of Jesus. As Christians, we will see our loved ones again. Ed would want parents to know - never give up on your children; keep praying for them, and God will answer those prayers.
