Douglas Kennedy
Jean
April 24, 1943 – March 17, 2026
Douglas Kennedy Jean, 82, of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away on March 17, 2026. He was born on April 24,1943, in Muncie, Indiana.
Douglas retired from General Motors in Shreveport, but his life was defined far more by his curiosity, humor, and endless willingness to learn than by any single job title. He had many interests throughout his life, including golf, bowling, tinkering with computers, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was a man of many talents: an accomplished magician, a bingo caller, a sign painter, an artist, a master dad‑joke teller, and even a self‑taught computer builder. If something sparked his interest, he simply decided to learn how to do it. He taught himself guitar, explored blackjack dealing, and took pride in completing the Dale Carnegie course for Effective Communications and Human Relations—one of his proudest achievements.
Douglas worked in a wide variety of roles over the years, especially in sales, where he sold shoes, real estate, vacuums, insurance, and Amway. He also spent time driving delivery trucks for bread companies, beer and wine distributors, and Tom’s Peanuts. No matter the job, he brought his humor, his people skills, and his knack for connecting with others.
He loved the simple pleasures of life—his coffee, his Cokes, his Reese’s Cups, playing video poker—and he shared those joys freely with the people around him.
Douglas was preceded in death by his wife, Jean B. Wild Jean, and by his son‑in‑law, Lee Curtis of Lafayette, Indiana.
He is survived by his son, Scott Jean, and Scott’s wife, Melissa Jean, of Lafayette, Indiana; his daughter, Carla Curtis, also of Lafayette, Indiana, and her partner, Joel Oliver; and his grandchildren, Crystal Curtis and her partner, Jeremy Bear, of Wolcott, Indiana, as well as Kennedy Jean and Carter Jean, both of Lafayette, Indiana.
He will be remembered for his creativity, his curiosity, his humor, and the way he embraced every new interest with enthusiasm. His family and friends will carry his stories, his jokes, and his spirit with them always.
