Obituary

Doug, 74, passed peacefully on June 15, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.  He was born March 3, 1946 in Evansville, IN, the beloved only child of Chuck and Amy Neff.

Upon graduation from Wayne High School in 1964, Doug enlisted in the National Guard where he served for six years.  During this time, he was called to active duty in New Jersey during the rioting where he proudly protected the lives and security of countless Americans impacted by the violent protests.  His status as a Veteran was one of his proudest accomplishments.  He was a true patriot.

Doug had a lifelong love of Colorado and the mountains, where he lived in Aspen, CO for many years.  Here, he met his wife, Cindy Whittington, and her son, Aaron, who became his son when they married.  Soon, their family grew from 3 to 4 with the birth of Charlie.  When Charlie was only about 6 months old, they moved to Austin, TX where they soon welcomed their 3 rd son, Bill Cody.

Eventually, they moved to Shreveport, LA where Doug started his own paint contracting business, Neff Painting.  When Doug retired, he pursued his long-time dream of owning a pub and bought Uncle Bennie's.  In his retirement, he enjoyed his favorite hobbies of fishing, golfing, and the friendship and comradery of his Uncle Bennie's family.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, Charles Edward Neff, his mother, Amy Hardwick Neff, and his cousin, Darrell "Butch" Neff.  Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Aaron Whittington and wife, Becky, Charlie Neff and wife Sarah, and Bill Cody Neff.  Also, his cousin, Ken Neff and wife Kim, and Cindy Whittington, as well as so many more dear friends than can possibly be named.

Doug's Celebration of Life Service will be held Sunday, October 4th at 1pm, at the Elks Club Lodge, 310 E. Preston Ave, Shreveport, LA 71105.  Family and friends are invited to stay after the service to share remembrances and stories.  Food and beverages will be available.  Parking is at the rear of the club at the entrance to the venue.  Under order of the Governor, masks must be worn and social distancing observed.  All who knew and loved Doug are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Doug's honor to Roy's Kids.
