Obituary

Doug Davidson of Blanchard, Louisiana went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 5, 2018.  Doug was born to Elza Alphonso and Fannie May Davidson on November 8, 1941 in Colfax, Louisiana.  Doug had a 50 year career as a radio announcer and TV host.  He began his career at KCIJ at 16 years old where he worked with Bob Smith, who later became known as Wolfman Jack at Doug's encouragement.  He was associated with radio and TV stations throughout the Ark-La-Tex.  As a result of his career he met and became friends with many country music entertainers such as Loretta Lynn, Buck Owens, Roy Clark, Johnny Cash, Tom Jones and Festus of Gunsmoke fame.  He worked for KTAL Radio and Television for 35 years.  Also during this time, he started The Gospel Hayride at the old Broadmoor Theater in Shreveport.  He brought in talent from the local churches every Saturday to provide gospel entertainment for whoever wished to attend.  In addition, he would bring in national talent groups such as The Hinsons, The Hemphills and The Rambos.   In retirement, he opened Country Treasures in Blanchard, specializing in antiques and collectibles.  He started a sign ministry in front of his store to encourage the community by sharing God's word.  Doug was an animal lover.  He missed his Baby Girl after she crossed the Rainbow Bridge and then Max and Gomez came into his life and gave him much love and companionship.  He also loved his chickens.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy Ray Davidson, daughter Laticia Kay Davidson, son-in-law William Calvin Allen, IV, grandson Brian Chadwick and nephew Ronnie Davidson.   He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cindi; daughter Christina Davidson Allen of Oil City; sons, Darrell Davidson and wife Beth of Hernando, MS and James Davidson of Shreveport.  He is also survived by his brother Bobby and wife Beverly and sister-in-law Della Davidson of Shreveport; sister Bettye Van Esler of Hot Springs, AR; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 31 2018 at 11:00 at Open Range Fellowship in Greenwood, LA with A Celebration of Life Service to follow at noon.  At this time, a book written by Doug about his life will be displayed.
