Dorothy
Sibley
December 5, 1930 – January 31, 2026
She graduated from Fair Park High School and went on to attend Northwestern State University, where she met the love of her life, William Daune “Don” Sibley. The two were married on August 25, 1950. Dorothy later earned her degree in education from Northwestern and, at the age of 49, achieved her master’s degree in education from Louisiana State University. Dorothy began her teaching career in 1953 in Vivian, but it was at Captain Shreve High School where she made her most lasting impact. As a dedicated member of the English and Drama Department, she inspired countless students and colleagues alike. In recognition of her excellence, she was named Caddo Parish Teacher of the Year in 1987 and Louisiana State Teacher of the Year in 1988. After 20 years at Captain Shreve, she retired in 1988, though her legacy endures—her photo still proudly displayed on the school’s Wall of Fame. Even in her later years, former students continued to reach out to visit and share how deeply she had influenced their lives. Dorothy was also an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. She had a deep love for reading, traveling with her husband Don, and spending cherished time with her granddaughter, Crystal, and her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Austin, and Alanea. Dot embraced life fully, living each day with joy and purpose until the very end.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Daune Sibley; her parents; and her brother, Henry Taylor.
She is survived by her devoted granddaughter, Crystal Sibley Nattin, and her husband, Steven W. Nattin; her great-grandchildren, Dylan Martin, Austin Martin, and Alanea Nattin Tullis; and her great-great-grandchildren, Easton Martin, Ella Martin, and Raelynn Martin, along with extended family and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mary Ann Arnold, Ramona Jackson, and Christine Ellard for the exceptional love and care they provided in Dorothy’s later years. A special thank you is also extended to Julie Smith for her lifelong friendship, love, and support In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, a private ceremony will be held to unite her ashes with those of her beloved husband—the love of her life, with whom she shared 72 wonderful years of marriage.
A Personal Tribute Grammy, Thank you… thank you for loving me and believing in me. Thank you for always being there and for encouraging me to always strive to be the best version of myself. I am beyond grateful for the time we shared, and I will cherish every memory. Some of my favorite moments were watching you and Papaw dance—even if no one else was dancing. Now, I carry that same joy in my own life, dancing with the love of my life, just as you did. I hope to pass that love and spirit on to my own grandchildren one day. You taught me so many lessons, but the greatest of all was unconditional love. I truly do not know what I would have done without you. God knew we needed each other, and I believe that with all my heart. I will forever be proud to call you my grandmother, and I hope I continue to make you proud. With all my love, Your one and only, Crystal Lynn
