IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy
Kroll
June 13, 1923 – August 9, 2017
A memorial service celebrating Dorothy Wallace Kroll will be held Friday, August 18th at 5:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Dorothy Wallace Kroll was born on June 13, 1923, in Haddenfield, New Jersey, and passed away on August 9, 2017, at the age of 94, sassy until the end. She bucked superstition and believed "13" to be a lucky number her entire life. Dotty was a dedicated mother, grandmother "Geemom," great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She was also a friend to many, both of the two legged and furry four-legged variety. Dotty was a resident of The Oaks of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Dotty was preceded in death by parents Samuel and Dorothy Wallace. She is survived by a sizable fan club: siblings, Jeanne Wallace Charleton, Samuel Wallace, Thomas Wallace, and Andrew Wallace; children Dorothy Reeser, Roy Dunn, David Kroll, Grace Kotcella, and Judy Primus; granddaughters Darla Rakoczy, Wendy Staulters, Laurie Ann Ward, Carley Mealey, and Rachel Kotcella; great-grandchildren Cameron Dunn, Wallace Rakoczy, David Mealey, Heather Mandell, and Benjamin Rakoczy; and great-great granddaughter Venus Mandell.
After graduating from high school, Dotty attended nursing school until she married. Dotty married twice and, while neither marriage really took, she did gain two children and three bonus children. Dotty worked both inside and outside the home. Her various jobs included working at Kaufmann's furniture store, Sears, and even waitressing at Denny's until her late 70's. Dotty lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Louisiana. She loved to camp, especially in her beloved white van. She spent most vacations from work traveling and even ventured a trip to Japan in her early 80's. Dotty loved all animals with a special fondness for goats and cats. Dotty was a voracious reader--when macular degeneration deteriorated her vision, she transitioned to books on tape continuing that life-long passion.
Dotty's family would like to thank those who took such loving care of her at The Oaks of Shreveport during her ten years there.
The family (knowing Dotty would have approved) requests that any donations in her name be funneled toward Best Friends Animal Society.
