Dorothy Jean "Sissy"
Golden Townley
May 28, 2026
Dorothy Jean “Sissy” Golden Townley
1929 – 2026
Dorothy Jean “Sissy” Golden Townley, age 96, passed peacefully into Heaven after a long and meaningful life devoted to faith, family, friendship, and hard work. Born in Houston, Texas in 1929, Dorothy was the daughter of William Gabriel Golden and Ruby Juanita Rutherford Golden.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and William Golden; her brother, William “Billy” Carl Golden; and her beloved grandson, Stephen Townley, with whom she is now joyfully reunited in Heaven.
Dorothy lived a full and active life centered around caring for others. She worked numerous jobs—sometimes more than one at a time—while faithfully supporting her mother, aunt, and two sons, William “Larry” Townley and Carl Townley. Over the years, she worked for KSLA Television Station, the Shreveport City Marshal’s Office, Schumpert Hospital, Exxon Oil, and several other organizations before retirement.
Her faith was an important part of her life. Dorothy loved her church family at Broadmoor Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended Sunday School and worship services. She also enjoyed exercise activities and attending First United Methodist Church of Bossier City. Dorothy graduated from Fair Park High School in 1946 and completed two years at Centenary College of Louisiana.
Dorothy was known as a fiercely independent woman who always extended a helping hand to friends and loved ones. She gave generously of herself and rarely asked for help unless she could return the favor.
She is survived by her sons, William “Larry” Townley and wife Robyn, and Carl Townley and wife Michelle. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Danielle Townley, Emily Grace Townley, Ian Michael Townley, Tara Townley, and Lauren Tilley and husband Todd. Dorothy was blessed with great-grandchildren Jaylen and Jasmine Williams, and Layla Tilley.
She is also survived by her cousin George “Butch” Rutherford and wife Linda, along with their children and grandchildren, as well as many extended cousins and friends in her home state of Texas.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched, including lifelong friends of more than 50 years and newer friends who quickly came to love her warm spirit and generous heart.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Willis-Knighton 5th Floor for their kindness, compassion, and generous care for Dorothy as she peacefully ended one journey and began another in Heaven.
