Donna Kay Woodward Malloy, 54, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 27, 2021, after being diagnosed with small cell carcinoma. During her short but courageous battle, she was embraced in the love and care of her husband Patrick Malloy, her son Patrick Malloy II (Lil' Pat), and her best friend, Jennifer Frazier.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents George James Sr. and Gloria Diane Woodward (Sutton) and her sister Barbara Charastka. Donna is survived by her husband of 28 years, Patrick, son Lil' Patrick, sister Carol Pearson, brother James Woodward Jr. (husband Tony), nieces Amanda Pearson, Samantha Bell, Savannah Bell Garcia (husband Isaiah), nephew Jonathan Flores (wife Lee Ellen), great nieces Emma Pearson and Lily Bell (Lilybean), great nephews Aydain Pearson and Malakai Matthew Garcia (Kai) and many aunts, uncles, cousins and in-laws.
Donna was born on June 2, 1967, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was the youngest of four children born to George and Gloria. Although Donna was the youngest, she was the caretaker, a mother hen, to all those surrounding her. She married the love of her life, Patrick, on November 8, 1992. On February 25, 1994, Patrick Malloy II was born. "Pooh" as Donna affectionately nicknamed him (he is, was and always will be her little "Pooh") completed their happy little family. Donna was a devoted mother to Lil' Patrick and a devoted wife to Big Pat. They were her world. Their family bonds were so strong, you could bend them but you could not break them. Donna, Pat and Patrick, in almost 29 years, have seen good times, they've had great times and they've weathered many storms but they've always made it through to the other side, whole. When Lil 'Patrick got his CDL and his work took him on the road, his Momma got him thru a lot of long lonely drives. She would be there to answer the phone, no matter what time of day or night and it would be just like Momma was riding shotgun with him. Big Pat was just as devoted to Donna. Every single day he would call Donna to see how her day was going. Every day after work he would call to see if there was anything she needed him to stop and get on the way home. She was his queen, up on a pedestal. Donna has left a soulmate imprinted in a relationship most can only dream of.
Donna was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, great aunt and friend. She doted on her family and was happiest when her large brood surrounded her…this includes her family of 7 kitties; Lucy, Neé Neé, Scooter, Wylie, Tater, Monkey and Ala (Alabama).
Donna treasured all of the holidays but especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. These two holidays allowed Donna and her brother, James Jr., to shine. They planned and prepared memorable feasts for the entire family to enjoy. While nothing will ever be the same without Donna present, the holidays will be lacking as well. Although we know that she is with us in spirit, those who know her best know she will be laughing it up in heaven because one of us did not prepare one of her dishes right. Donna's all-time favorite holiday was Halloween. While Halloween was not a typical family gathering type of holiday, it was a FUN holiday for Donna. She went all out - no holds barred!
Donna also loved going to Florida, especially when Lil' Patrick was younger. Donna and her sisters, Barbara and Carol, would take all their little ones, Lil' Patrick, Samantha, Savannah, and Johnathan to Disney World, "the happiest place on earth!"
Donna was an extrovert, a people person in general. She worked in customer service most of her life and loved meeting new people. Most recently, Donna worked at the VA in the Canteen, the Retail Store, and the Coffee Shop for almost 10 years, where she was able to show her honor and respect to the Veterans. She prided herself on serving those who served our country. When she left the VA, she missed interacting with the Veterans as they absolutely made her day.
The family would like to thank Christus HomeCare Schumpert and Christus Hospice & Palliative Care Schumpert for the peace and care they provided Donna during her final time on earth.
Please join us in a Celebration of Donna's Life to be held on October 10, 2021 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the VFW Post 4588, 1004 Jeter St. Bossier City, LA 71111.
