Donald Glen "Donnie" Upshaw, a caring husband, brother, uncle, and friend, went to his eternal heavenly home on March, 22, 2025. He died peacefully in his home in Coushatta, Louisiana with his wife, Murriel, by his side.
Born in Coushatta on June 19, 1944, to Earl and Erma True Giddings Upshaw, Donnie worked most of his life as a pattern fitter for local steel foundries. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Erma True Upshaw, his sisters Dorothy Bittick and Patsy Barnwell, his brother Russell Upshaw, brother-in law Art Brown and his niece Annette Cason.
Donnie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Murriel Slaughter Upshaw; He also leaves behind three siblings: Betty Klein; Judy Lockey and husband, Jimmy; and Wayne Upshaw and wife, Denise, all of Hickory Grove; sister-in-law Kay Brown, brothers-in-law Jim Barnwell and Willis Bittick, special neices Sherry Giddings and Carolyn Pullig, special great-nephew Nathaniel "Tater" Davis, as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Coushatta, Louisiana, officiated by Rev. Ken McLaren, followed by funeral at 11:00 with interment in the church cemetery. Honoring his memory as pallbearers are brother-in-law Jimmy Lockey and nephews Jimmy Lockey, Rodger Cason, and Dana Foster, Adam Upshaw, and Chase Upshaw. Honorary pallbearer "Tater" Davis.
