IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Denise
Mathews
December 4, 1959 – March 26, 2021
Denise "Necee" Speights Mathews, age 61, passed away suddenly on March 26, 2021 at her home in Stonewall, Louisiana. Born on December 4, 1959, to C.A. "Buddy" Speights and Victoria Lee, she grew up in Longstreet, Louisiana. She graduated in 1977 from Central School in Grand Cane, Louisiana, where she met the love of her life, Rusty, and built a loving family and life over the next 42 years. She is preceded in death by her father, C.A. "Buddy" Speights, her brother, Stephen Ashley Speights, and her grandmother, Irene "MeMaw" Speights.
Denise was a loving and loyal wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She loved camping, fishing and working in her yard. She could operate a riding mower better than anyone and had a high tolerance for putting up with people, especially Rusty. For the past 30 years, she worked as a hairdresser, best friend and therapist for too many to name. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Mission Point Baptist Church in Stonewall.
But her true calling was her family. Her two sons and four grandchildren were her world. From cheering the loudest at their ball games and riding them on the lawn mower to making every holiday and birthday extra special...they were her heart and soul. No matter what they did or said, her favorite saying to them was simply, "Oh WOW!".
"Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him."
- Psalms 127:3
Denise is survived by her loving husband, Rusty Mathews; son, Brad Mathews and wife Jamie; son, Jeremy Mathews and wife Jordan, four grandchildren, Braeden, Kenzie, Lane, and Aubee Kate;
mother, Victoria Lee and stepfather, Bob "Pop" Lee; her sister, Liz Adams and husband Michael Adams; brother, Alan Speights, brother Jonathan Speights and wife, Tanya; brother, Michael Speights; Uncle, Lanis Speights; Sister-in-Law Cindy Speights; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are her in-laws, Bryant and Georgia Mathews and Terri Mathews.
