Obituary

David Alexander Oge', 62 years of age, passed over on Monday, May 18, 2015, at Grace Home Hospice, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He had fought two rare forms of blood cancer for several years and in April 2015 was pronounced free of blood cancer. Two weeks later he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. This was unexpected and shocked everyone. In his weakened state, treatment was not an option. David made the decision to let go and was very clear in his requests. During the years that he courageously fought cancer, David remained optimistic and full of joy and life. His strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends, and supporters carried him through 4 years of chemotherapy culminating in a life giving stem cell transplant at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. His donor was his sister, Yvonne Parker. David had a giving spirit and touched everyone he met. He did not know a stranger. He never let cancer control his life and continued to be a rock for his family and anyone who needed him. He was a strong, gentle, and compassionate man who loved life and everyone he met until the last. His sense of joy and his laughter attracted so many. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He served our country as a medic, E-3 in the USAF while stationed at Hahn Airbase in Germany from 1971 - 1975. He has been a Petroleum Landman, CPL, for the past 34 years. He was a member of ETAPL, and AAPL. He was an active member of the Nurnberg Alumni Association, the official alumni association of Nurnberg High School, where he served as president from 2000 - 2011. He is a graduate of the University of Texas. David was born on October, 12, 1952 in Bourne, Massachusetts to Lydia Young and Alexander Oge'. He was the oldest of five, two sisters and two brothers. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Rosa Young, his father, Alexander Oge', and a brother, Wayne C. Oge'. His surviving immediate family include his loving and devoted wife, Deborah Oge' of Shreveport, his two step sons, Dustin Campbell of Virginia, David Campbell of Shreveport, two sisters: Yvonne Parker of Tennessee and Patricia Oge' of Texas, one brother, Shawn Oge' of Louisiana. He has 7 nieces and 4 nephews: Carrie Downing, Carolyn Horelica, Heather Gutiérrez, Barbara Krotendofer, Shelby Ashley, Christina Smith, Kellie Smith, Shawn Sweitzer, Danny Blough, Nick McLean, Matt McLean. In-Laws include: CSM Allen C. McLean (deceased), Gladys M. McLean, Steve and Tim McLean, Teresa Smith, Brenda Blough and their spouses. David's wife, Deborah, was his high school sweetheart. They met while their fathers were stationed in Germany. They lost track of each other when their families rotated back to the United States in 1968. It would be 31 years later that they would find each other again and on June 28th 2001 they were married and eventually settled in Shreveport, Louisiana. They were totally devoted to each other for 14 years through better or worse, sickness and health. Theirs was a love story that spanned many years and now spans eternity. David loves gardening, cycling, hiking, swimming, and making new friends. He enjoyed sitting on his back patio listening to his waterfall, the sounds of nature, and watching the rain. He had two devoted dachshunds that were like his children. He took many walks with them finding peace and serenity. David was of the Catholic faith and served as an alter boy in his younger years. He always believed that God had a plan for him and said he was at peace with God when he was taken home. His unwavering faith and the devotion of his wife, family, and friends kept him strong as he marched to the gates of heaven. There will be a Memorial Service with a Rosary led by Father James McLelland, at Aulds Funeral Home, 7849 E. Kings Highway, Shreveport, La., 71115 at 1:00pm May 22nd, 2015.
