David Eric Cowart was born on July 17, 1992 and passed away suddenly at the age of 25 on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

The greatest love in his life was his family. A dedicated brother, son, grandson, nephew, and cousin, he supported, protected, and cared for his family. His second loves were his dogs, Torque and Bella, who remained by his side until the end.

David Eric followed in his Dad's footsteps with a lifelong love of cars and motorcycles. Eric fostered this dream with a degree as a mechanic. When cars broke down in front of his family home, he would spend hours helping repair them, at no cost.

Eric focused on helping others, demonstrated by his desire to serve his country and his selfless decision to donate his corneas. He wanted to be a combat medic in the United States Army because he loved this country and wanted to save people. David Eric was completing a second degree in criminal justice and, similar to his dad, planned to have a career in law enforcement, following his military service.

Despite a nearly life-long struggle with his vision, after corrective surgery last year, Eric's legacy will continue because he helped someone's dream of sight to come true. From one of his sister's favorite poets, Eric's motto was "Be patient and strong; for someday this pain will be useful to you." Adored by so many, he will be loved and missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

David Eric is survived by his adoring parents, Don and Wendy Cowart; his sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Matt Cook; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan Cowart and David Humphrey; his sister Jamie Leger; his grandmother, Wilma Cowart; his maternal uncle and Aunt, John Darrell and Dorothy Wingert; his paternal uncles and aunts, Willie "Corky" and Kim Cowart, Sue and Colin Cresswell, and David and Sharon Cowart; and his cousins, Jessica and Kevin Douglas, Justin and Erika Cowart, Piper Cowart, and Kate Cowart.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Doris Wingert, and his paternal grandfather, Willie "Bo" Cowart, who is probably fishing with Eric by now. Visitation will be held for David Eric Cowart on his birthday at 5 pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Auld's Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 6 pm. In celebration of his birthday, his family encourages all visitors to wear bright colors.

David Eric's friends, Hunter and Kaitlyn Lyman, are hosting a celebratory balloon release in honor of David Eric. All friends and family are welcome to bring balloons to the Clyde Fant Memorial Parkway Disc Golf Course on Thursday, July 19, 2018. The balloon release will begin at 7 pm.
