Daniel Scott "Scotty" Brown, born on January 5, 1942, in Carthage, Texas, passed away on October 30, 2025, after a brief illness in Shreveport, Louisiana. As a young boy, Scotty moved to Mansfield, Louisiana, with his parents Dan and Hazel Brown, who opened the town's first dry cleaning business, Brown's Cleaners.

Scotty attended Mansfield Elementary School. He took piano lessons and was a boy scout during his youth; Scotty also was very involved in church activities at First Baptist Church. During his time at Mansfield High School, Scotty played in the band and was involved in sports such as track, football and basketball as well. He actually marched with the band and played the drums at half-time during football season (all while wearing his football uniform). Scotty was Mr. MHS his senior year.

Scotty attended Texas A & M for two years before deciding that A & M's "no girls" policy was not for him. He then transferred to LSU where he also attended law school. Scotty continued playing football—no, he did not play for the LSU Tigers—but he did win an award in LSU's intramural league while playing on the SAE team. While a freshman in law school, he and his good friend Donnie Kelly won first place in the Moot Court competition. Upon graduating from law school, Scotty went to Army Officer Candidate School at Ft. Rucker in Alabama, then to further training Ft. Gordon in Georgia before being sent to serve his country in Thailand during the Vietnam War as an M.P., criminal investigative division.

Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, Scotty returned to Mansfield, where he began practicing law with the Colvin & Hunter law firm. Although he served as an assistant district attorney for DeSoto Parish for a time, Scotty was able to help more people with his knowledge of the civil law, primarily property, successions, and contracts law, although as a small town practitioner, he worked on cases involving many legal issues.

Scotty loved working with the youth when his children were growing up, especially the MYF at First Methodist Church. He also enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing golf and softball, hunting and fishing, and watching and attending LSU and Aggie football games. He was a larger-than-life personality and counted many people as his friends. His grandchildren, however, were his pride and joy, and his pets through the years were his trusted companions.

Scotty is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Columbus and Hazel Lois Brown, and his brother, Rickey Bob Brown. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Lois Brown; Rick Ballowe Brown (Suzanne); and Danielle Brown Gosslee (Robbie); and their mother, Joan Rester Brown; grandchildren
Caroline Prentice Berlin; Christopher Campbell Bolton; Henry Scott Brown, Audrey Veigh Brown, and Phoebe Cate Brown; as well as some beloved cousins.

The family thanks Dr. David Abdehou and the other doctors and nurses at Willis Knighton Pierremont and Shreveport Rehabilitation Center who cared for Scotty during his illness; Dr. Abdehou again, along with his staff at Montclair and the Chateau for their excellent care of Scotty during his time in Shreveport; Delbert Rains and Debbie Harris, Alan and Martha Yarbrough for always having an extra place at their table for Scotty; and, Chris Atkins, Destiny Grant, and Brenda Powell for going above and beyond the call of duty in assisting Scotty with whatever he needed when he lived in Mansfield. For all of his friends who were there for him as he declined, we thank you as well. He may not have always expressed it, but he knew how much he was loved throughout your friendships.

After a family graveside service in Center, Texas, on December 30, 2025, the family will have an informal celebration of Scotty's life that evening at Danielle's home in Shreveport, Louisiana, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. If you are planning on attending, please message one of us for further details
