Obituary

Dr. Cosimo O. Brocato III, affectionately known as "CO" and later, "Cosi", passed away peacefully on Monday, May 12, 2025, in Bossier City, Louisiana, at the Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Home, due to respiratory and kidney failure.

Born on September 8, 1938, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Cosimo was the child of Rosa Lanza Brocato and Anthony Brocato.  He spent his formative years in Shreveport alongside his two younger sisters, Marie and Sara Ann.  He grew up in a close-knit family and gained early life experience working in the family grocery store his father opened, A. T. Brocato Grocery, it was located at Sycamore and Abbie St. in Shreveport.  Cosi was a longtime member of St. Teresa and St. John's Berchmans in Shreveport and later in life he joined St. Jude in Bossier City.

Cosimo graduated from Jesuit High School in Shreveport before attending Loyola University in New Orleans for undergraduate studies.  He went on to earn a doctorate degree from the University of Alabama Dental School in Mobile, Alabama.  Following his education, he served two years as a dentist in the United States Air Force, and after completing his military service, he returned to Shreveport.  Now home, Cosi began a long and fulfilling career in dentistry, establishing his own dental practice in Shreveport and he considered it a blessing to serve the community through work that he loved.  He built his dream home on Cross Lake and settled there with his wife and four children.

Cosimo was preceded in death by his parents; former spouse, Marilyn Stanek Brocato; son, Tommy Brocato; and sisters, Sara Ann Brocato and Marie Brocato.

He is lovingly remembered by son, Tim Brocato and wife, Suzanne Camp Brocato; son, Michael Brocato and wife, Paula Ettredge Brocato; daughter, Regina Brocato; son-in-law, Ben Kolniak; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Crowley Brocato; his grandchildren, Isabella Brocato, Landon Brocato, Lauran Brocato, Anthony Brocato, Michael Brocato Jr., and Logan Geaslin; as well as great-grandchildren, cousins, and extended family members.

Cosimo embraced life with enthusiasm and found joy in many pursuits. He enjoyed playing golf at Palmetto Country Club, camping, fishing, country and western dancing, playing craps, and watching football games.  Cosimo was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, Progressive Men's Club, and the VFW-Lowe McFarlane American Legion Post # 14, serving the Italian community here in Shreveport.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the friends, neighbors, and caregivers who offered support during this time.  May Cosimo's memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

A special thanks to:  Regina Brocato, Ben Kolniak, Jennifer Wilder, Becky Alverez, Raymonde and Dave Anderson, and many unmentioned for all their selfless care and attention to Cosimo during the past few years.  Your time to him was invaluable.
