Obituary

Constance Marjorie Carter Whatley passed away December 9, 2020 with her niece, Carol Ann Murphy, and caregivers by her side.  Marjorie had a bigger than life personality that carried her through her 99 years of life.  She was dearly loved by her entire family.  She was born on October 8, 1921 in Mt. Zion community, Louisiana to her parents Clara Essie Martin and Annie Lonzo "Lonnie" Carter.

Marjorie married Doyle Whatley March, 1942.  She met Doyle while living with a US Army Colonel and his wife as a young woman while attending school. Doyle took one look at Marjorie and said, " That is the woman I am going to marry".  With Doyle as an US Army NCO, they were often transferred living in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Morocco & France.  Her niece and her husband, Clara and Paul Gladek, were also stationed in France at the same time and were able to visit.

She worked for the Department of Defense after getting married as an Executive Admin. Marjorie was a whiz with keyboards as she could type over 100 words a minute on a manual IBM typewriter.  After Doyle retired, they moved to Washington, D.C. and she transferred to the U S Dept of the Interior as a Computer Specialist working with IBM mainframes and punch cards.  There was not much Marjorie couldn't do!

After retirement she moved to Shreveport, La.  Marjorie was always active with her siblings. She frequently traveled to Hall Summit to visit with Rupe and Bev or Olive and Nick. Since Aunt Ed, Uncle Tom and Dorothy lived in Shreveport, they would get together on a regular basis.  Sissy and Harry lived in Alexandria, so not as often, and her niece Clara and husband Paul would always come for visits.  She treated all her sibling's children as her own with 12 nieces and nephews.

Family was special to Marjorie but so was her faith and her commitment to the Woodridge Baptist Church.  Marjorie was a faithful Christian at Woodridge teaching her Sunday School class and worshiping.   Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Clara Essie Martin and Annie Lonzo "Lonnie" Carter, her 4 sisters Olive Lablond, Maude Elois, Mary Dorothy, Edwina Ellen, and brother Rupert Lonel.

The family would like to thank Michelle Hamilton, June Porter, Lessie Williams, Raven Lee, Kimberly Sanders and Stephen Bayer for their unwavering care and support for Marjorie in her later years.  We would also like to thank Marjorie's niece, Carol Ann Murphy, for taking such wonderful care of Marjorie with a special love.

Due to COVID restrictions the family is planning a memorial service on October 8 th , 2021, which would have been her 100 th birthday.
