CMSGT George R. Saulsbery

Our dad died peacefully in his sleep with our mom by his side on June 21, 2018 at the age of 86.

Dad joined the United States Air Force and began a career that would last 33 years.

He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam.

Dad met his wife and the woman he would call "The most beautiful girl in the world" on Oct 8th, 1953 in England. They married Oct 9th, 1954 in England and began a 63 ½ year journey together which took them many places.

He was stationed at BAFB from 1972 to 1975 and served as First Sergeant from 1973 to 1975. Dad would retire at RAF Alconbury, England in 1983 having served as First Sergeant and then as the 10th Tactile Reconnaissance Wing Senior Enlisted Advisor. He then began a second career working for the DOD. He and mom would enjoy their life together traveling England and Europe.

They return here to Shreveport in 2012.

During his military service he received amongst others two Meritorious Service Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/ Valor, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 devices, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross w/device, Air Force Commendation Medal and Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon w/ 6 devices.

He leaves behind his wife Marie whom he adored, son Steve and his wife Jill, granddaughters Lauren and Rachel all of Bentonville, Arkansas, his daughter Carla and Gary and relatives in England and Arkansas.

We find some comfort he is with his grandsons Mathew and Michael.

We would like to thank Trent and Joia for their care of our dad.

A memorial service will be held on June 28th at 5:30 in the Aulds Funeral Home Chapel, Shreveport.
