Clifton Lloyd Watson, 82, went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, October 27, 2019, at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana, with his wife by his side, following a long battle with chronic kidney disease.
Clif was born on August 11, 1937 in Natchez, Mississippi to Venton Lloyd Watson and Cora Lee Dukes Watson. He graduated from Natchez High School and received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Mississippi Southern College, now known as the University of Southern Mississippi. Clif had a deep faith in Jesus Christ, and was a member of Haynes Avenue Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a devoted husband and father. His greatest desire was that his children and their descendents would have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Clif's career began with International Paper Company in Natchez, Mississippi. In 1965, he moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, initially serving as Personnel Director at Mercy Hospital. His lifetime career in Hospital Administration began in 1966, when he was appointed Assisstant Administrator and later Executive Vice President at Mercy Hospital in Vicksburg, under Sister Mary Eva Loyocano, R.S.M. He served as Chief Executive Officer at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, Louisiaiana, from 1979-1989, later assuming Regional Hospital Management positions in Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana. Moving to Shreveport, Lousiana in 1992, he founded Camelot Healthcare, LLC, a multi-hospital corporation, where he served as Chief Executive Officer until his retirement. During those years he served as Chairman of the United Givers Fund, the American Cancer Society, the Chamber of Commerce. Board of Directors of the Vicksburg Kiwanis Club, and held membership in the Masonic Lodge in Vicksburg and Natchez, and Shreveport Rotary Club. His professional organizations included the American College of Hospital Administrators, the Mississippi and Louisiana State Board of Nursing Home Administrators, and the Hospital Financial Management Associations of Mississippi and Louisiana.
Clif was preceded in death by his parents, Venton Lloyd Watson and Cora Lee Watson; and his younger brother, Ronald Keith Watson. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan Blankenship Watson, of Shreveport, Louisiana; daughters Carol Lee Mathias and husband Troy, of Jacksonville, Florida, Connie Lynn Bradshaw and husband, Jef, of Spring, Texas, Catherine Lane Tanner and husband, Mason, of Dalton, Georgia; a son, Craig Logan Watson of Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Williams, Kindel Leigh Atkins, William Hunter Mathias, Cori Nicole Bradshaw, Keegan Cole Bradshaw, Ella Kate Tanner; and eight great grandchildren.
Graveside services are scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 12:00 noon at the historic Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, Mississippi, and will be officiated by Dr. Mike Anderson. Memorials may be made to Haynes Avenue Baptist Church or the Shreveport-Bossier Resue Mission, both in Shreveport, Louisiana.
