Claude Edward Veatch, 86, of Coushatta, LA went to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, August 26th, at home.

Claude was born the only son of four children to Carrie Long Veatch and Wad Veatch on April 8th, 1935. His mother and sisters doted on him and spoiled him as an only son surrounded by females would be.

Claude loved Red River Parish and the family land known as "The Hill." He was raised in Hickory Grove Baptist Church where he came to know Jesus and worship faithfully. His love of the Lord, the Church and its members were one of the most important aspects of his life.

Claude was a 1953 graduate of Coushatta High School. Claude recently attended a class reunion with his classmates who were lifelong friends. He attended Spencer Business College in Baton Rouge. Upon graduation he began a career with JB Beird/Riley-Beird Corporation which spanned over 40 years. Claude served on the Red River Parish Police Jury for 16 years and also served on the Grand Bayou Lake Commission. He met many wonderful friends and co-workers during those years.

Claude married his love, Mary Ann Teddlie Veatch, on April 12, 1957.  Mary Ann preceded him in death four years ago. He missed Mary Ann terribly. We rejoice that they will have a heavenly reunion.

Left behind are daughter Allison Valcho, son-in-law George Valcho, grandsons Matthew and Daniel, and his wife Rachel. Sister Robbie Sue Johnson, nieces Cathy Bell (Andrew), LaJuana Reeves (Jimmie), Rhonda Long, Carrie McDonald, and Lynette Orr. Nephews Gary Orr and Greg Johnson (Leigh Ann). Many great nieces and nephews, cousins and family friends including Karen Pardee.

We thank Dr. William Haynie and staff, especially Corie, for their loving compassionate care over the last 31 years. Thank you also to Kindred Home Health Coushatta for their excellent care.

Visitation will be Monday, August 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 31st at 11:00 a.m. also at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
