A memorial service to honor the life of Charlie Michael "Mike" Strayhan, will be held Saturday, December 21, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Church of Christ in Plain Dealing, LA. Family and friends are welcome to gather and share memories.
Mike Strayhan, a resident of Plain Dealing, LA, passed away on December 14, 2024, at the age of 73, after suffering from kidney disease for many years. Despite his illness, he always had a smile on his face and never complained. Mike was born October 17, 1951 in Plain Dealing, LA to Clark McKinney Strayhan and Madge Elizabeth Hardaway Strayhan.
Mike graduated from Northwestern University in Natchitoches, LA with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in parks and recreation management. During his college years, he worked at Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, where he developed a love for the outdoors. After graduating college, he pursued a career in law enforcement. During his career, he worked as a corrections officer for many years in Caddo Parish, then began working as a Park Ranger and Deputy Sheriff in Bossier Parish. After 29 years of service, he retired from the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department in 2015. After retirement, he continued to work part time for the Sheriff's Department until 2022.
Mike enjoyed many outdoor activities, music, traveling, and motorcycles. He had many life-long friends and co-workers that he enjoyed spending time with. He was kind and generous, always positive and upbeat. He loved to laugh and pull pranks on his friends and family. His greatest joy was spending time and making memories with his grandchildren. He was loved by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clark Strayhan and Madge Hardaway Strayhan; and brother, Clark "Mack" Strayhan, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Mason Strayhan of Plain Dealing, LA; daughter, Holly McClendon, and husband, Todd; daughter, Amber Smith, and son, Ryan Strayhan; grandchildren, Cody Rushing, Garrett Greer, Hannah Greer, Savannah Smith, Dakota Strayhan, and numerous cousins.
