Dr. Charles Dennis Shanks, 68, passed away on May 8, 2021, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Charles was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, on October 13,1952, where he graduated from El Dorado High School. After receiving his undergraduate degree from Centenary College in Shreveport, he graduated with a degree in optometry from the University of Houston.  Charles practiced optometry in the Shreveport, Haughton and Sarepta areas for over thirty years before retiring. Charles is preceded in death by his son Jonathan Shanks, parents Charles and Ellen Shanks. He is survived by his daughters Abby Shanks and Audra Shanks Legrand; her husband, Jonathan; grandsons Steven and Nathan Shanks, Luke, William, and Brooks Legrand; brothers Keith, his wife Cassi, Tim, and his wife Tamara. A memorial service will be held by the family on Saturday, May 22 ^nd , 2021 at 1 pm at his daughters' childhood home at 1925 Racetrack Bayou Road in Bossier City, La.
