Charles William Moore

(January 30, 1937 – July 10, 2022)

Charles W. Moore, 85, passed away on July 10, 2022, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Born in Hot Springs, New Mexico, Charles moved in 1948 to Walla Walla, Washington where he graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1955. He then received his B.A. in Art and English from Whitman College in 1959, his M.A. in Fine Arts from California State University in 1968 and his Ph.D. in Art History and Humanities from Syracuse University in 1972. He also served in the United States Army and Army Reserves.

Charles spent his career as a professor of art and art history at several colleges and universities, including Jacksonville University, Virginia Tech, William and Mary, University of Hawaii, and lastly Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Charles was an artist, participating in gallery shows, was a juror at art shows, guest lectured on art, and created art throughout his life.  He also wrote art columns, papers, and essays during his career. He enjoyed cooking, visiting museums, taking roads trips out West, listening to a variety of music and watching LSU football and Atlanta Braves baseball.

Charles is survived by his wife Ruth Ann; sister Nancy Hanson; daughters Priscilla Anderson and Judith Reeves; sons-in-law Steve Anderson and Kevin Reeves; granddaughters Katherine Reeves and Emily Reeves, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Thelma Moore; brother, Orville Moore, Jr. and sister, Shirley Criss.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, July 18, 2022, at 6:00 PM in Broadmoor Baptist Church's Memorial Chapel at 4110 Youree Dr. in Shreveport, LA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Charles's name to the American Cancer Society.
