Obituary

Brian F. Horton, 72, passed away on August 10th after a lengthy battle with cancer.  He was born on May 16, 1950 to Martin and Lucille Horton in Worcester, Massachusetts.  He was the second of four children.  After graduating high school, like many of his contemporaries, Brian joined the U.S. Army where he earned the rank of Sergeant First Class before leaving in 1980.  He then went on to build a career in the information technologies field which brought his young family to Lewisville, Texas.  He later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana where he would spend the remainder of his retirement.

Brian was preceded in death by his parents and wife Beth Horton.  He is survived by his son Ron Horton of Shreveport; son Christopher and wife Lisa Horton, grandchildren Emily, Jacob, and Allison of Lewisville, Texas; son Patrick and wife Sarah Horton, grandchildren Caleb and Olivia of Denton, Texas; sister Karen Riedl of Southwick, Massachusetts; brother Mark Horton of Warwick, Rhode Island; and sister Patricia Jones of Dayton, Nevada.

During his retirement, Brian met lifelong friends Melinda Love and Pamela McCarty whom would later stay by his side throughout his treatment and end of life care.

Whether it was his own family or close friends that would come into his life later on that he considered family, Brian was always willing to lend a helping hand to those he cared about.

Brian learned to always maintain a positive outlook no matter what obstacle he was facing.  This became even more true at the end of his life as he faced his cancer diagnosis and treatment.  He remained positive and resilient as he battled his disease through its end.  Those that knew him best would say he lived his life on his own terms and loved to make people laugh along the way.

In following with his wishes, Brian is being cremated and returned to Texas.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Brian's name to the American Cancer Society.
